Survivor

Fighting her friends, she struggles with stress.
The assault known, they deny her credibility.
Time for tears, friendships betrayed and broken.
He stole them, fealty a fickle dream.
Alone she cries, authorities wipe her eyes.
Justice an illusion, still she holds hope.
Family gives comfort, woefully wishing for vengeance.
New baggage packed, life's painful journey continues.
Taken without concent, he stole her happiness.
Finding peace difficult, she becomes a survivor.

Northern Wildfires

On the breeze, I smell a million trees.
A beautiful bouquet that sets me at ease.
Fond campfire memories on some warm summers eves.

But thoughts betray, the news of the day.
North wildfires rage, through Canada they carelessly stray.
Cruel ruinous play, consuming everything in their way.

Southward smoke drifts, floating fog comes and sits.
Engulfed in haze, the cities taken by blitz.
Sweet smelling mists fill breaths with forest bits.

Karaoke

The lights are low, the bar glow.
Stark contrasts and hidden figures.
Fill out a sheet with discreet intention.
Slide the slip to the DJ who casts it aside.
Return to the table to sit and wait.
Listen to the powerful PA amplify amateurs.
It's karaoke, expectations are understandably low.
The songs we all know mutilated without mercy.
Energetic announcement declares the moment's come.
Heart pounding to no beat, the walk of anticipation.
Sing through the anxiety, let go, and have fun.

Spark

In her eyes,

I see the time that's missed.

Possibilities and realities,

that could exist.

Sadness lingers,

as this persists.

I look away,

I'm not her kissed.

This strong attraction,

I should desist.

Longing for another glimpse…

I turn away,

I must resist.

Candidate

The buffoon boasts of how to better the world.
His boundless appetite for attention never satisfied.
False promises made to appease the masses.
Not content with leading, on the take.
Morality in shades of gray, patterns of mistrust.
Rich in character, thick with charisma, lacking in substance.
Only a fool paraded as a puppet for amusement.
Mysterious might behind the right.  Controlling.
Another dancing doll, pretending to care.
Easily seen through tempered mirrors.
The reflection of the collective soul.
Darkened by the blood of innocence.
Glutenous from lust for consumption.
The Vampire sees no reflection.
Only the gates of darkness look back.

Requiem

The choir sings in stone chapel of vaulted bricks.
Conductor's dance leads the singers' songs.
Quietly and subtle the altos start, opening the gates of sound.
In follows the whole, bringing grace and gratitude.
Requiem for the savior bearing bittersweet beauty.
Herald sings a call for the faithful to follow.
Soprano harks the call to god for safety and serenity.
Ringing chords sound the echo of promised paradise.
Calm and solace grace the hall as beauty resolves.

Sunset In The City

Beautiful breeze, bringing calm and peace.
Soothing sun's shine fading gently.
The colorful hues gracefully dissipate.
Bright red dissolves into orange, then yellow.
Finally, green resolves into deep blue
Day leaves as night arrives.
Yellow street lights keep the city awake.
Few solitary stars shine through.
Urban glow won't let the others show.
Constellations of office lights line the horizon.
Traffic Lights and passing cars replace celestial grace.
Nature's beauty becomes vacation's space.
The gluttonous metropolis devours the divine.

Descent

A leaf falls in the wind.  Carelessly it tumbles.
A gust blows it aloft.  Spinning and flipping it falls.
A hand grasps but cannot reach.  It hangs too high.
A foot shuffles past.  It alights on a bench.
A seat is taken nearby. A gesture brushes it off.
It lands on the earth.  The earth accepts it.
